As would be nice if someone could state that uncovered the true answer to each of these questions, perhaps exterminaríamos once and for all with a series of problems that we have inherited from our ancestors.
Usually when we talk about revival, just thinking about gatherings of believers, "full power" speaking in tongues, having revelations, healings, cry, too much noise, etc.. and based on this misconception, we realize that the vast majority have a vague idea, not biblical and unfortunately the trend is shut all the doors of our churches for revival.
We are in need of a true revival, but otherwise we were afraid to open ourselves and seek more precisely by these prejudices acquired.
Revival is a supernatural act of God in the life of every Christian who sincerely open your heart and lets through the Holy Spirit, there is a change in attitude toward all sin in your life.
Today, the tendency is to overvalue the gifts and totally forget the Christian character, ie, has the gift of healing, or speaking in tongues, has a revelation, brings powerful messages, etc. .. the church in worship is a blessing but at home or at work no one supports, their friendships are unreliable, their bills are not paid on time, speaketh evil of his neighbor, etc. .. this is not so important, few are interested in knowing how the Christian life is, the better Do or Have than Being
There are strong movements that seek to create a revival mechanic, where emotion is the basis for the action, leading many to make decisions sincere without really understanding the implications in your life leads most to give up and return to complacency with their old habits and customs .
Whenever I need to talk about revival, I remember a comparison that I learned when I was still young, in a message I heard. The Church of Jesus can be compared to a tree, being naturally healthy of course, must produce leaves and fruits.
A tree that has only leaves is beautiful, produces shadow draws attention of all the beauty, but we can say that is incomplete, as it lacks the fruit when it comes to wind noise they make is great.
On the other side of the tree that contains only the fruit is desired for its content and many can satisfy your hunger, but this tree is not attractive, it lacks something that you look your best.
If we consider this analogy between (tree and Church) and compare the leaves with spiritual gifts and fruits with spiritual fruit, we can complete some truths:
- Every church like the tree to be complete must have leaves (gifts) and fruits.
- A Church with only the leaves, can be attractive but has no content, not kill the hunger of anyone, totally vulnerable to the wind, and noisy.
-. A Church with only fruits, are healthy, content has to satisfy the hunger, but it has beauty and not moving despite the wind, very heavy.
- Ideally, then it must be a church that has the gifts that grace, rejoice, and call attention also the fruit, because they are badly needed for providing nourishment and balance the tree before the wind.
Some definitions:
The apostle Paul recorded the secret of a Spirit-filled life and revived - Galatians 2: 20 I have been crucified with Christ and live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
"Revival is the breath of God to take away the dust that was accumulated over the years in our spiritual life."
"Revival is a supernatural act of God in the Christian life that, by opening your heart to him, becomes fertile for producing the fruit of the Spirit, filling and spiritual gifts." "Revival is an entirely supernatural visitation of the Holy Spirit of God, whereby an entire community becomes aware of his holy presence and is surprised by it."
Marks of Revival
When true revival, have caused impacts and make difference for the better in our society.
In the workplace, at home and at school all recognize the aroma of Christ in your life - II Cor 2:14 - 15. And thanks to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us in every place the fragrance of his knowledge. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
- Change in attitude towards sin - repentance, confession and restitution
- Attitude of praise and glorification of God - New song of praise and worship
- Become more active in the Church of the Lord Jesus - through his gifts and spiritual fruit
- Character totally worked by God transformation and renewal of values
- Love the Word of God read, study, reflection and application of the principles in life.
- A life of prayer: learn to pray God's will and not ours.
- It is restless - not satisfied with the spiritual inertia in their church.
When begins revival
Revival begins when we discover that we can not live for ourselves and we decided to turn our life including Christianity entirely in the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The apostle Paul wrote: "I have been crucified with Christ, then I am no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me - Galatians 2: 20
The design of the Cross on the cover illustrates very well what is entirely dependent on the power of God in our lives so that crucified with Christ, we can live even revived in the strength and power of the Holy Spirit.
Care before the Revival
In the magazine Ultimatum No. 266, Sept / Oct 2002 see the following precautions we need to have before the revival movements.
• The super believers
In the book of Francis Schaeffer he draws our attention to the group of super spiritual, or despise intellect, doctrine, body and culture, to emphasize the spectacular or extraordinary.
• Dependent Emotions
Emotions are highly valued and are driving decisions.
• Search and exaggerated miracles or visions
Need of visions and signs every day to survive.
• Fanaticism
The distance between the zeal and fanaticism is not very large, but the difference between them is huge. The Spirit leads us to zeal, enthusiasm, the full submission, the total devotion, to detachment, but never fanaticism.
What we need for our churches to come true revival?
- Consecration, more quality time with God.
- Discipline, pastors must practice discipline both educative as punitive.
- Hunger for the Word of God - we challenge our members daily reading and devotional.
- Prayer undoubtedly there will be no revival without prayer, we're still a little church that prays. Little prayer, little power, much prayer, much power, no prayer no power.
- Change behavior, Christian behavior must be differentiated from the world.
- Faith doubt is the fear away from God and consequently the revival.
- Confessions of sins are almost losing the practice of confession and restitution of our sins.
- Pastors really committed to sanctification that seek a true anointing for their ministries.
A message to reflect
1) Revival is abundant spiritual life.
For times of discouragement and removal of genuine faith, we have a positively glorious promise which is at its peak of performance: the spiritual revival. - Acts 2: 39. What promise was that? Was that they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, vol. 38. The Spirit helper. What the apostle Peter says in Acts 2:39 is that once converted and integrated into the Church, the believer has at his disposal the Holy Spirit with his gifts and power. It will help you in intercession, in understanding the Word and preaching. And will make the believer an active person, even in the midst of a world full of doubt and darkness.
Work in the Work. Revival is available for the Lord's work. It is boldness and fearlessness. More than itself on its comfort, in their business, the believer thinks enlivened the service that should be provided to the kingdom of God. He gives himself constantly, with every provision.
2) Revival is a source of power
Shortly before his ascension, Jesus uttered the famous words: "But you will receive power when descending upon you the Holy Spirit," Acts 1: 8. He was giving the disciples the assurance that they would have the necessary resources to continue the work begun.
Miracles - That power that fills courage, dynamism and great grace was evident in the lives of the early believers. There were splendid miracles, such that even Peter's shadow healing, Acts 5: 15. Led aprons and handkerchiefs of Paul and put them on the sick and troubled lives and were released, Acts 19: 12. The text of Acts 3: 1 records a miracle so extraordinary that the people were filled with wonder and amazement. A lame from birth hoping to get Peter and John a simple handout, but received physical healing. Shortly thereafter he was seen entering the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God, happy, Acts 3: 9. Such was the power in the lives of the apostles, that miracles were frequent.
Wonders in Scripture. Three phases of Biblical history were full of great miracles: that of Moses, the prophet Elijah's and the beginning of the Church. The Lord had a purpose in doing so: authenticate the message of preachers and lead people to faith. The first century believers watched closely great manifestations of power. Healings and deliverances were common.
3) Revival is awakening
The revival dawned on Pentecost and believers inflamed with this blessing, went boldly to win lost souls. This wonderful story is told in the book At.1: 8. This is the great promise and, in Acts 2: 1-4, compliance. In Acts 2: 5 forward, was born a powerful missionary work. Logo gets results, Acts 2: 41, Acts 4: 4. Christians boldly and fearlessly preached the Word of God.
The Church is the prayer of Habakkuk takes pleasure in praise, evangelism, preaching the Word, involvement in missionary work. It exists to serve. So it is always aware that outside the four walls of their temple is the great challenge. A church like that never sleeps.
Prayer of our MCTN
"Aviva, O Lord, thy work in the midst of the years, and in the midst of the years make known; Lord in thy wrath, remember mercy", Hc 3: 2.
The prayer of the prophet Habakkuk is a cry for revival. When we look at the state of life of most people around us, we realized the huge gap between your want, your dreams and the real way to live. The contrast is striking, especially in the spiritual and social. Amid a world so advanced in technology, is the man so down, so devastated, so depressed. In the Church, we also are not always satisfied. There are many with a faith abated, diminished. For other religion has become a usual routine. And the Church a sort of club, where is good to go. But our project is greater. We want more. More of Christ over his love. In times like this is that we need revival, to be more dynamic in faith.
